FAST FASHION: MODELS & BODY IMAGE
Fast fashion plays a heavy influence in determining what’s “trendy” and “hot” in the modern day. Unfortunately, the industry has cultivated a prominent message that models and human beings everywhere have to be “skinny” to be fashionable. According to an article on The New York Post, several tactics on how these models achieved their skeleton appearance was surviving off a diet based on cotton balls, water, and cigarettes. These detrimental methods to obtain such vain and shallow standards is truly disgusting. It doesn’t necessarily help either when agencies “encourage” models to lose weight; as seen multiple times, it takes very little before their lifestyles plunge into a downward spiral based on an obsession with weight. We need to take a step back and realize that body sizes are of little importance when determining what’s chic. We should aim our focus on other problems rather than the number at the top of our scales.
