FAST FASHION: CHILD LABOR

Purchasing clothes for low prices is almost a reflex for most, if not all, of us.

Many complain that they have nothing to wear as they stare into the mountain of clothes they produced in efforts to find something to wear for the day.

Every morning I am guilty of this, as I get ready for school, without realizing that 11% of the world’s children (to put into perspective, approximately 209,000,000 children) are stripped from their rights to go to school without the burden of having a little to no pay job.

Fast fashion has caused big businesses to hunt after the cheapest sources of labor. Many girls, in particular, are fooled or forced into the textile industry, thinking they will receive enough pay to support their family; in reality, they are paid extremely below minimum wage and work long hours.
